We're very excited to launch our new Reading Program. We can't wait to watch as each of your astronauts travels on an exciting journey to Mars!
Theme: "Mission to Mars"
- Students will be working together as a class to complete a 1.41 million mile trip through space to reach the Red Planet.
- A spaceship will represent each class, and the students will be the astronauts. As reading sheets are turned in, the spaceship will advance through space on its way to Mars.
Goal
- The goal for each student is to turn in 20 reading sheets over the course of the program (24-25 weeks). There are five lines on each reading sheet. Students may read more than one sheet per week.
- Each line of the reading sheet represents:
- 30 minutes of reading for 4th and 5th graders
- 20 minutes of reading for K – 3rd graders.
Progress
Achievement will be tracked using the provided reading sheets and class logs.
- Students and parents will fill out reading sheets at home.
Printable reading logs
- Turn in reading sheets to the classroom.
- Progress will be recorded during scheduled trips to the library.
- Students who turn in reading sheets will receive a "Reading Rocket" which they may choose to redeem at the Green Card Store for a small prize.
Awards
- 20 reading sheets = Gold Medal
- 100% class participation = 100% Award of Merit
- Top classroom = Pizza party
